» Club nights and random thoughts
So, as some of you know, I have been planning a one off club night somewhere on Folsom recently....as I think on how to get new people in, I have been thinking of how we advertise these nights.

Now, I know a lot if music in the scene has a lot of "cross-over" potential. Most of it not heard at all because things have been labeled goth and industrial.

Is there a better way of advertising this do you think? Just thinking that it would be nice to get some new people in, people that might shirk at normally doing into a G/I club in particular.

Do any of you think there could be a problem with this type of advertising?

Please discuss.

Is anything happening besides New Wave City?

If not, might just go to a couple of local bars....

Last night, went with Nina and Jeff to see Stripmall Archicture at the Hotel Utah. Great show, with SA playing the opening and closing sets. The only bad part was having to endure the other band The Young Hasbeens. I really cannot see what anyone sees in that band, and really if I do not ever see them again, well it would probably be too soon.

(Poor Shawn of Bloodwire was manning the merch booth and could not escape the live set at all....owe that man a favor someday soon.)

The first set was the one that has the songs by RR/Halou/SA that I love the most...more glitchy downtempo material like Ratio Of Freckles To Stars, Visitor Hummingbird and the like. Backed by Ili of Bloodwire on backing vocals and [info]unwoman on cello and providing more vocals. All I can say, if you like minimal glitchy pretty electronics with female vocals, go and check out this line up. Not sure if they are going to be doing dual sets like this all of the time, but it is worth the price of admission.

Selected examples to buy, R/R Coosboom "Beneath Trembling Lanterns" Invisable Ballet "Escaping Light" Halou "Wholeness and Seperation" and "Wiser" as well as Stripmall Architecture "Object01" and "Object02" - I know that they are working on a full length SA album right now so that should be enough to tide over anyone for awhile. (Also, do not let the various band names fool you, because really they are all the same band under different names)

I commented earlier that the only problem that I had with the 2nd SA set was idiotic fans. If any of you here have ever seen a live show at the Utah, you know that it is possibly the smallest place in SF...it makes the Retox look big in comparison. So any group of people that gets up and starts trying to swingdance in front of everyone else that is trying to sit and watch the show probably deserves to get kicked with a steel toe boot. More so if it is in front of me....oh well, they were having fun, and I cannot really fault them for it.....

Probably more music ramblings later...listening to the RR "Beneath Trembling Lanterns" right now, as I realized looking at it last night that I did not actually have this.

The shame of being a record collector and not having something by one of your favorite bands....took care of that though, so all is good.

» Some thoughts on 2009 as a whole
So as far as the DJ Ron1n camp is concerned 2009 has been a fairly good year. There have been some high points and thankfully very few low points. Since it is the half year point, I thought I would take this opportunity to talk about some of these in greater depth and to see where we are going to go from here.

Ramblings and listings for those that are interested in music related topics )

That is everything off of the top of my head, I know there is greater detail I would like to go into…but I think that I need a break from all of this typing.

Is tonight, and I will be there.

Just wish I had not done a million things over the course of the weekend.

I am so tired. Will more than likely spend the rest of the week (through Thursday) working on live show and club related activities, I really want to write another music post or two as well, probably something reviewish maybe.

» A Semi Random Collection Of Music Thoughts
So, the weekend has been filled with some various musical adventures.

Friday was House Of Voodoo, which because of ABC was a standing event only. This was actually cool, as I spent some time talking and discussing a few things with Mike V. I guess I will be doing a one off night as a guest DJ @ HOV in a few months, spinning a mixture of goth/deathrock/synthpop and maybe some of the VNV style industrial. I will also be doing a one off night at Medici sometime in the near future, more information will be coming in on this in the near future.

Afterards I ended up DJing upstairs...Mike Voodoo was kind enough to let me use his laptop DJset up, so I played a mixture of harder industrial stuff, which is some thing I have not been playing as much if lately. Did not keep a playlist so if anyone here was there, please let me know what I played.

Saturday was spent with Jeff from the Deephearted with me in vain trying to work on something, unfortunately I was uninspired. After awhile we met up with Nina and went over to the "Evening With Stripmall Architecture" shindig, drank some wine and hob nobbed with a few people. They played material more on the down tempo and gothier side of things, including the greatest version of "Ratio Of Freckles To Stars" that I have ever heard.

Working on a few things, stuff that I really do not want to discuss in detail quite yet, but if things go as planned, you will more than likely be hearing about them soon enough.

Once again, here is my list for bands that you should be listening to.

Halou/Stripmall Architecture/ R/R Cooseboom - basically all the same band. Or at least the core duo. They will be playing the Hotel Utah on Friday. Hopefully I will be able to make it...I have a bunch of smaller things going on Friday, but more than likely be there.

Bloodwire - A band who shares members in the studio and live with Stripmall Architecture. Probably one of my favorite bands out there, more than likely will be booking another show with them sometime soon. This gets my vote for the band that you should check out and buy as soon as possible. Like toda.

The Deephearted - A band that I like so much that I formed a label, just so that I can put out a CD by them. We should have the CD ready to release in September I believe, that will be getting a longer and more in depth entry when that rolls around.

The Dark Clan - Trust me, buy The Vampire Wore White, or the EP that I will be releasing hell anything that Dan puts his mind to.

Or just download the free album from recent memory here

More to follow later....but I have a few things to do.

It is going to be a busy weekend for me,
